Emotional Damage

As I grow older I learn more and more that my emotional well being is so important. A lot of us live day to day not really paying attention to all the hurts we bottled up for years, until we are shaken like a soda bottle and explode either in a emotional or mental break down or even a physical illness. I have experienced both. At one point in my life I didn't leave my house for 3 months, panic attacks, emotional breakdowns and even worse I was physically ill for a long time and doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. It's unfortunate that we were not taught how damaging bottling up emotions can be. When we were children and especially young boys, we were told "don't cry, be quiet, calm down or don't be so sensitive" when in fact if were allowed to feel our emotions and speak on them in the moment, maybe we would not all be on meds, on couches spilling our guts or slitting our wrists. We as a society have to do better, we have to share our emotions more, teach our kids it's ok to cry and get them to talk about the hurts they are going through. Let's face it, we don't want our future generations to be zombies.

Today I am med free and am in a great place in my life. I made peace with old hurts, removed negative people, and focus now on meditation and self healing.

I encourage those of you who haven't tried some of these things, to do so asap. It could be your saving grace.
