Sometimes in life we run into people we really care for but the other person has a difficult time being able to accept our love, friendship or kindness. They can't reciprocate the feelings and that's why we say "hugging a cactus" loving someone that can't love you back. The tighter you hold on, the more it hurts. I'm sure most of us have been in a relationship like this before and understand the feeling. So the question is why do we stay in it or prolong the torture? Could it be we have a need to fix the damaged goods? Do we feel if we love hard enough and stick it out that things will inevitably change and the lights will come on? Or maybe we are just as messed up and trying to fix them takes the focus off of our own issues? At any rate, lets stop hugging the cactus and focus more on loving ourselves, healing our pain, caring for our needs and lastly let's bask in the sun like a beautiful blooming flower and not like a prickly stump.
